Ulpotha - 29th June to 13th July 2008Ulpotha - A village, yoga retreat and Ayurvedic eco resort in Sri Lanka " The best Yoga Retreat in the world..." The Obserever " The entire experience is a spiritual high...." Vogue
Magazine Granville invites you to experience a Yoga Holiday with a real difference....... Come away to a discreet little place in the heart of
Sri Lanka where a village and oasis meet. A place know as Ulpotha, the
land of the ?water spring?, quietly waiting at the foot of the sacred
Galgiriyawa Mountains. Perched at the edge of a lotus-crowned lake and
tiny emerald green rice paddy fields. A self-sustaining bio-diverse organic farm with an ancient
character and natural wealth to charm the most privileged health, beauty
and travel editors of Europe. Where the attentive hospitality far exceeds
the practiced service and patronage of the best international spas; a
place so fetching in its natural beauty it is regularly featured on the
short list of the Hip and Hot spots to chill-out by European travel authorities. A village, a yoga retreat and Ayurveda treatment centre where pretense gives way to sarongs, bare feet, long lazy afternoons or delicious body treatments, most often involving whole body massage with luscious oils. You come for the intimate company of 18 other guests, most keen to practice yoga and unwind far away from the stresses of modern life. Yoga classes are offered twice daily in the open-sided
yoga pavilion swathed in the lush, emerald green of patty fields beside
the lotus dotted lake. Relaxation and leisure are taken to new heights at Ulpotha.
Come and go as you please with no pressure to participate in classes.
One is invited to lounge in any of the lovely tree houses or arbors arranged
around the eco-reserve, walk in the majestic hills, shower in the many
waterfalls, swim amongst the lotus leaves or navigate a bike further
afield to find yet more exquisite water meadows and bewildering jungles. Nestle into luxurious simplicity each evening, fall into
deep sleep with the restful sounds of nature in an elegant adobe house.
Awaken to nature?s evolving wallpaper in your open-air room and outdoor
shower. Enjoy sumptuous vegan cuisine in the ambalana, a saffron-stained
open-air pavilion. The bounty of Ulpotha?s sacred harvest is ceremoniously
served in exquisite curries, dals and salads, infused with mango, papaya,
jackfruit, rambutan and more. Each delicious item parades around the
crown jewel of Ulpotha food - their heritage rare, organic red rice. Partake in a course of Ayurvedic treatment in the wedegedera,
native treatment centre, under the esteemed ministrations of Dr. Srilal
Mudunkothge B.A.M.S., renowned Ayurvedic physician. Treatments are complete
with rare, organic medicinal herbs, plants and trees, most grown at Ulpotha.
The initial consultation is without charge, with fees for subsequent
treatment donated to the local Ayurvedic clinic to treat villagers free
of charge. This tradition, which includes free medicines for the locals,
echoes the traditional practice of Ayruveda, where patients rarely if
ever, paid in cash for treatment. Instead patients would make a symbolic
offering of betel leaves to the doctor at the time of consultation and
in turn make their own services available to the doctor. Your holiday is inclusive of accommodation, meals, yoga, massage and transport to and from the airport, if you manage your flights with the group transportation provided by Ulpotha. Ayurveda at Ulpotha is additional, although the initial consultation is free of charge. Flights are recommended from London?s Heathrow Airport. For flights from the UK For direct flights with Sri Lankan Airlines contact Dash
at Paradise Travel on 020 8434 0411. It helps if you mention Ulpotha.
Please be aware that departure is one day before the start of the holiday
due to the time difference and journey time - note transfer info below. Airport transfers to Ulpotha are included for those on
the designated group flight - ie the flight that coincides with the beginning
and end of each fortnightly yoga session. This is the direct flight from
London Heathrow to Colombo with Sri Lankan Airways, UL506 departing Saturdays
